When the Jury Disappears: A Quiet Shift Toward Totalitarian State-Controlled Justice

As someone who is likely to live in the west reading this article, do you look towards communist countries such as North Korea and Russia and thank God that in contrast you live in a country that has democracy?

If so, then the following ought to strike fear into you as a reality check… For centuries, the right to be judged by a jury of your peers has been one of the bedrocks of justice in the United Kingdom. And the UK itself, where laws and rules that originated with the Magna Carta, have protected us and many other countries for centuries, were birthed in the first place. It is not just a legal technicality. It is a safeguard against the concentration of power by a totalitarian controlled state. It ensures that no single institution, no matter how authoritative, can unilaterally decide your fate.

But that foundation is continually being eroded in front of your eyes. For years, magistrate courts, where the majority of non-jury trials take place, have had increasing levels of powers given to the judges or by lay magistrates (non-professional judges).

Now in today’s video by the Blackbelt Barrister, we see recent proposals by Justice Secretary David Lammy are designed to increase these powers even further. How? By requiring that many more criminal cases, particularly those deemed “less serious”, should no longer require a jury.

On the surface, this is presented as a practical solution to court backlogs. But beneath the language of efficiency, another dimension of what is done in the “public interest” lies something far more concerning: a rapid transfer of power away from the public and into the hands of the state. This is a clear and devastating case of fake whistleblowing.

The Deliberate Misleading Language of “Efficiency”

We are told by UK Justice Secretary David Lammy, that these changes are necessary. That the system is under strain. That cases are taking too long. And to justify this, we are given analogies comparing crimes that carry up to three years in prison to something as trivial as a “scraped knee.”

This is how you know someone like David Lammy is a fake whistleblower. He and others are highlighting true, real problems that need to be addressed. The system is under massive strain. But his solutions are ineffective and will not address the chronic underlying problems. Mr Lammy is using these real issues to smuggle in changes that would give the state a disproportionate and tyrannical amount of control and power over citizens.

Think about that.

A scraped knee heals in days. A criminal conviction can follow someone for life. It can destroy careers, relationships, reputations, and futures. To compare the two is not just misleading, it is a minimisation of the very real consequences of a totalitarian state.

Language like this matters. Because it conditions the public to accept the removal of safeguards as something minor, even reasonable, and even worse… something that is being done that will benefit them and is in their interest. This is what makes the proposal by the Government so evil. It is being presented as if it is good for us, the public!

You may think that this won’t apply to you as a law-abiding citizen, but that is because you do not understand the nature of how the state use tricknicalities (so-called technicalities) to convict someone of a crime they did not commit.

One such example is this: Did you know that if you had a disagreement with someone and you went to their house to have a peaceful discussion with them, knocked on their door twice, and they didn’t answer, that you could be arrested and incriminated?

We have a number more examples on our Scamtology website here and many more to report on from our research.

The Real Shift: From Public Justice to Totalitarian State Control

Under these proposals, a significant number of cases that currently qualify for jury trials would no longer have that protection. At the same time, magistrates who are often not legally trained could be granted expanded powers to issue sentences of up to two years.

And perhaps most concerning of all, the automatic right to appeal could be replaced with a permission-based system. In other words, the state would not only judge you without a jury, it will decide whether someone’s case is even worthy of appeal. Given that, UK magistrates, who are untrained laypeople, get a number of verdicts wrong, this is extremely concerning. It would mean miscarriages of justice are never known about, let alone corrected.

This may not seem like a big issue, but it is an attempt to weaponise the system to completely control the population, and is typical of the Establishment that uses changes in law to slip in backdoor additions which seriously infringe upon the freedoms and rights of citizens in the UK. Given that many individuals go to a magistrate’s court without any legal representation, they have absolutely no idea of how legal proceedings work. Lawyers, court clerks and judges speak in an almost alien language compared to the everyday person. Legal technicalities and procedures can overwhelm citizens. So, the tactic to bypass automatic appeals drowns a potentially innocent party in even more legal bureaucracy that they may never make their way through. In simple terms, someone could be found guilty of harassment or malicious communications for a single harmless message on social media. And without any automatic right to appeal, they could be easily found guilty by a magistrate who is untrained in the law. They would then be stuck with a criminal record for posting a single message. Enemies of the Establishment can be swiftly dispatched this way. It seems that the courts and the media are increasingly becoming weaponised by decriminalisation of safeguards and just due process.

This is a deeply concerning shift towards totalitarian power. Because once the state can act as judge, jury, executioner and gatekeeper of appeal, the balance that has protected citizens for centuries begins to collapse.

Why Juries Matter

Juries are not an inconvenience. They are a protection of citizen power. They introduce independent, collective judgment of into the legal process. They reflect the conscience of society, not just the interpretation of law by institutions and individuals anchored to the system. They provide a critical check against judicial error, bias, weaponisation and overreach. And as an accused member of the bottom-tier, we want a jury of our peers. Where there are humans, there is criminality, and the justice system (so-called), media and government and government agencies abound in this criminality yet go unchecked as part of this two-tier debacle we are living in.

Yet juries are not perfect, and no one is suggesting they are. History has shown, time and again, that wrongful convictions do occur. However, the answer lies in improving juries, regardless of cost. We are talking about one of the few remaining restraints on state and judicial power. The response to such failures should not be to remove safeguards, but to strengthen them.

At the same time, we are seeing a wider erosion of accountability. The media are no longer consistently fact-checking, despite public assumptions that they do. Instead, they increasingly rely on sources—whistleblowers—whether genuine or not—without proper verification. This is how Lighthouse became embroiled in these issues, and similar patterns can be seen with the Insolvency Service and within the courts. This cannot continue unchecked and they will not get away with this. Not ever.

Because rights, once removed, are rarely restored. History teaches us a simple lesson: the moment a state begins consolidating power over legal judgment—especially under the guise of efficiency—it moves closer to a system where accountability is weakened and authority becomes harder to challenge. This reflects the very weaponisation we have been reporting on. It is also why, for example, death penalty cases in the United States take so long to proceed—because of the lack of trust in the system and the gravity of getting it wrong.

Ultimately, these changes risk pushing people towards self-censorship through fear. By removing mechanisms like jury trials—protections designed to safeguard ordinary citizens—individuals are left feeling exposed. The average person would ordinarily do the right thing and speak up, but that willingness depends on the assurance that they will be judged fairly by their peers.

The Warning for The Road Ahead – Targeted

This is not about being “soft” or “tough” on crime. It is about who holds the power to decide guilt and then challenge that decision.

Is it the public, through imperfect but independent juries?

Or is it the state, operating through its own institutions, with minimal, independent checks and balances?

The direction is clear. Every step away from jury trials, every restriction on appeals, every expansion of state-controlled judgment moves us further from a system rooted in shared responsibility…and closer to one where decisions are concentrated in fewer hands.

When citizens lose their active role in justice, they lose more than a legal mechanism. They lose a direct form of participation in democracy itself and hence a protection mechanism for themselves.

Because once the state becomes judge, jury, and executioner… History shows that it rarely stops there.

That is why Lighthouse is writing a must read publication called Targeted. It will be part of an ongoing educational series that will enable and equip citizens to take responsibility for their lives. In particular through protecting yourself from Establishment attacks via media and central government agencies and becoming involved in major governmental lobbying and advocacy initiatives to change the legal landscapes of our countries.

We would love to hear your thoughts on Targeted and for you to comment on any experiences you read or are witnessing and/or experiencing where you see that citizens are losing their rights and powers in society.

This is something that most people won’t realise is a very very serious issue. This is the tip of the iceberg and I can feel the momentum pushing further and further towards centralised state judicial powers in the bar of efficiency and fairness. I’m grateful for Mr ShenSmith’s work and his efforts to help the public. We have to make sure people understand the true and full facts here. Not just why David Lammy is falsely purporting!

Many thanks to Mr ShenSmith. He has his fingers on the pulse. It’s scary that Mr Lammy did law at Harvard. I ought to have expected that he would appreciate the sacredness of the Jury system. However given the Establishment’s desire to use lawfare and weaponise the courts, it makes sense why Jury’s are under attack.

The weaponisation of the system, which the establishment continues to pursue at the expense of ordinary citizens, is becoming increasingly brazen—with even jury trials now being considered for removal. It is despicable, and it is exactly why we must come together as Christians to stand behind and support one another. Enter Citizen Intervention Global. God bless everyone.

These proposed changes are chilling. I say that given the passionate way in which Daniel ShenSmith speaks in opposition to these proposed reforms. Given the State provably doesn’t care about its citizens and that it will seek to protect its own first, then this all looks to follow a slippery slope into dystopian tyranny. There’s a wealth of case studies that’s growing by the day!

Meanwhile, today I saw that Solvakian MEP (Milan Mazurek) has been banned from entering the UK because he’s “not conducive to the public good”. Also I saw that Alex Belfield, who has history of blowing the whistle on BBC tyranny and abuse has also been put back in prison without explanation as to why. Then there’s Montgomery Toms who’s under investigation as he shares here on X.

Given the establishment is clearly targeting, persecuting and prosecuting its critics, this makes these proposed reforms even more dangerous.

We can never allow the state to be fully judge, jury and executioner. That is too much power in too few hands.
Juries are not perfect but at least they are ordinary people judging ordinary people, not ‘The State’ dictating what is right and wrong.

Thank you Daniel ShenSmith for explaining what these reforms actually mean and for this informative article. It is atrocious what is being done to this justice system. Removing the safeguards is no way to deal with a backlog. Also I utterly disagree with the comparison between a hospital and courts. In hospitals people die if there’s too much of a backlog- it is absolutely vital. And yes people suffer a lot when trials are delayed – but it simply isn’t the same. You can’t rush something along without the safeguards if someone’s entire life is at stake. No one would suggest getting untrained med students to perform surgeries to deal with hospital backlogs. There are safeguards to protect life. The same ought to apply here.

Thank you. It does seem that there is a growing tendency towards centralising power within government structures. Any shift that increases control over citizens raises important questions about accountability, transparency, and the protection of individual freedoms. The right to justice should remain a fundamental and unquestionable pillar of a healthy society.

This situation feels like a risky path, where even well-intentioned changes could have serious unintended consequences if not carefully examined.

Our brothers in court are experiencing first-hand how technicalities can sometimes be used in ways that work against citizens rather than for them.

It’s therefore crucial that we continue to learn how to protect ourselves, remain informed, and stand firm in truth. I’m looking forward to reading Targeted. God bless.

The move Mr Lammy is making here is so extremely concerning. That anyone in his position would use such a reference as a “scraped knee” to describe the changes the government wants to make here is so perniciously misleading and deceitful. I cannot believe that someone put into such a position of responsibility could be so incompetent and negligible to do something like that without knowing exactly what they are doing. Which makes what is being proposed and pushed forward even worse! In my view, this is not about efficiency, this is not about saving resources, this is about increasing control and effectively moving towards more dictatorial powers. They are attempting to steal and remove the legal protections that have safeguarded the people of this country for decades and playing on the ignorance and naivety of the public, which is heinously evil. God bless Mr ShenSmith, the BlackBelt Barrister for his work in exposing and revealing these things to the audience he has. It’s so important that we educate as many people on this as possible before it’s too late.

What you have highlighted here, how the establishment wants to stop having juries and stop appeals, that is frightening. I say that because what they are doing is giving one person the power to say whether or not someone is innocent or guilty; only God has that power. I am grateful for this article because it is opening my eyes up to the reality of how much control the establishment has and how they still want more. God bless us all. I look forward to reading “Targeted” I know from these articles that it is going to be a must-read.

Deeply concerning these turn of events are. Honestly, the manipulation David Lammy was present makes my skin scrawl, just feeling the ramifications of what he’s hiding. Control, control, control. The problem is not enough people understand what really is going on here, so they’ll slip this in and more injustices will happen.

Thank you for sounding the alarm on this disturbing proposal…again, another sinister motive by the Establishment, hidden behind a seemingly good thing for the public.
This could not be further from the truth. There isn’t one everyday citizen that thinks that they could find themselves in the hands of the law…until they are and we must know how any changes the government makes, that directly affect us and our access to justice, is questioned and challenged as we uncover the realities of the Scamtopia we live in.
